Much talk at the Morley/CRISIS event about the twitterpations of the Islamic terrorists offended the Pope articulated that killing and maiming Christianity is naughty. I'd summarize the general consensus is that Islam is circling the Catholic wagons for a fresh series of verbal and physical assaults and attacks that can potentially go rather...awry. The Pope seems to have raised a kerfuffle. "'The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war,' Benedict said. 'He said, I quote, "Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."' Indicating the delicate nature of the topic, Benedict said 'I quote' twice before reading passages about Islam, and he described them as 'brusque.' However, he neither explicitly agreed with nor repudiated the passages." Yes, beg pardon for our thoughts about the evil and inhumanity of driving planes into buildings with thousands of people in it as being rewarded by God with a harem of vestile virgins in their final resting place. At this time, I wish also to add that I am deeply sorry for the reactions in some countries to a few passages of my address at the University of Regensburg, which were considered offensive to the sensibility of Muslims. These in fact were a quotation from a medieval text, which do not in any way express my personal thought. Yesterday, the Cardinal Secretary of State published a statement in this regard in which he explained the true meaning of my words. The Pope didn't author the texts, he simply read from the medieval texts, and the Muslims were offended by what they heard. Go figure. Security around the Pope is being beefed up as al-Qaeda starts marking the papacy and Christendom itself: The comment has called down the wrath of Muslim extremists and the shocked dismay of Islamic moderates. Threats have been issued not only to the papacy but the entire billion-strong community of Catholics. One popular jihadist website operated from Kuwait declared that Catholics “are doing everything in their power to extinguish the light of God” and called for violent retribution. Security and military leader in the West Bank’s Bethlehem, Brigadier Ahmed Al Hadar, issued a statement Sunday morning indicating that preventative measures have been taken to protect area churches. A nun was killed in Somalia in the Democratic party's respect for life campaign. Anyone heard from the Kennedy/Kerry Seamless garment goons?
