A new abortion rights group at Boston College, with the aid of a professor, rebelled against university officials and held its first major event this week, a panel discussion featuring the public affairs director for Planned Parenthood and three academics who are abortion rights supporters.

Still, the antiabortion movement is strong at BC, with at least three groups dedicated to the cause. Last week was dubbed ''Respect Life Week," during which students held a series of antiabortion vigils.

But Christopher Hunker -- managing editor of the Boston College Observer, the conservative student paper, who attended the panel -- said the discussion itself was flawed, because the panel was comprised solely of abortion rights supporters.
''I think dialogue is important," Hunker said. ''But I think balanced discussion is more important. This was merely a preaching to the choir."

Oh--the Father Jenkins approach.

Can anyone say Mandatum?
